Artist Profile
Stu Myles - Angelotti
As a resident mainlander, Stu spent 10 years performing for both the Dunedin Operatic Society and the Dunedin Opera company before taking a place in the inaugural year of Christchurch’s Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (ASDA).
To further his training Stu then moved to Wellington to study under Barry Mora and then Rodney McCann. During that time he performed principal roles in the Victoria University’s productions of Magic Flute (Sarastro) and Marriage of Figaro (Dr Bartolo), as well as with the National Opera chorus in the Festival of the Arts’ highly acclaimed production of Simon Boccanegra.
Since resettling in Christchurch in 2005 Stu has taken part in Southern Opera’s productions of Carmen, Il trovatore (the Old Gypsy), Gianni Schicchi (Master Spinellocio), The Magic Flute (First Priest), and as the King of Egypt in SO’s recent concert version of Aida.
For the last two years Stu has been under the expert tutelage of Mary Adams Taylor and is very much looking forward to performing the role of Angelotti in Southern Opera’s production of Tosca later this year.
