Twenty-three year old soprano Anna Argyle is a 2008/2009 PriceWaterhouseCoopers Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist with NBR New Zealand Opera and has just completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Performance Voice at the University of Canterbury.  In 2006 Anna graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours (First Class) in History.  She has trained with Dame Malvina Major since 2003 and has performed in a number of concerts for the Dame Malvina Major Foundation. In 2007 Anna was awarded the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Scholarship for study at the University of Canterbury.          

Recent performance experience includes soloist in the Christchurch Symphony's Last Night of the Proms in November 2007, chorus member in Southern Opera's 2007 production of Carmen and the role of Monica in Menotti’s The Medium as part of the University of Canterbury Platform Festival earlier this year.

                           

Anna won the 2008 Christchurch Competitions Society Aria competition and was also runner-up in the Sealord Aria in Nelson. Anna is a member of the Solid Energy Ensemble of Southern Opera and was in the chorus of Southern Opera’s 2008 production of Il trovatore. Anna will perform as a soloist with the Nelson Symphony Orchestra in November 2008. In 2009, as well as performing the role of Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Anna will understudy Elvira in NBR New Zealand Opera’s production of The Italian Girl in Algiers.
